MINE. HIS.

You know,

I was yours first. And then You were mine.

Yours in life.

Mine in death.

Most people are out here cursing their absent fathers…

Happens I’m not one of them. I know that if you’d had the option of staying you would have stayed.

You’re absent in the most unjust of ways.

And present in most absurd of ways.

It’s the mark you left however, that has made certain that I never stop feeling your presence.

The way you cared and the way you loved. The times you made certain your promises to me were kept.

And how you made sure you’re word meant the world to me. And that it was worth everything.

And some days I find myself wondering,

If I should just warm up to you not being here,

Or if I’d rather you were somewhere in the world and absent…

Every other day however,

I’m appreciative of the days you were here.

The years you cherished me and made memories you had no idea would last me a life time.

Well, I wish they wouldn’t have to. But I have to make due with what I have…right?

So today I’m thankful because you’ve been a present dad.

If you were here you’d do so much more, that I have no doubt.

But you’re not. You did more than enough when you were here though.

That has meant the world to me.

That I can confidently and proudly say that I know what having a father means.
